In a remarkable fightback, there were many highlight performances from the West Indies players both with the bat and ball. However, it was West Indies captain Shai Hope who batted really well in a pressure run-chase in challenging conditions and scored an important unbeaten fifty. Therefore, Hope was adjudged with the Man of the Match award in this WI vs IND 2nd ODI match.
After having lost the toss and being put in to bat first, India got off to a brilliant start at the top as the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan added a fine opening stand of 90 runs. Shubman once again failed to convert his start of 34 runs while Ishan smashed his second consecutive half-century in this ODI series. However, India suffered a huge batting collapse having been reduced to 113 for 5 in 24.1 overs. Suryakumar Yadav also failed to take advantage of the given opportunity as he could only score 24 runs off 25 balls and none of the India middle-order batters got that settled on the crease.
Eventually, the Indian team were bowled out for a below-par total of 181 runs in 40.5 overs. For West Indies, the duo of Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd ended up picking three wickets each while Alzarri Joseph also took two scalps.
In the run-chase, West Indies got off to an impressive start as their openers, Brandon King and Kyle Mayers stitched a crucial partnership of 53 runs. But then, the Windies team ended up losing four quick wickets as they crumbled to 91 for 4. The duo of skipper Shai Hope and Keacy Carty got together and showed excellent temperament under pressure to guide the run-chase.
They added an exceptional unbeaten partnership of 91 runs for the fifth wicket to help West Indies chase down the target of 182 runs in 36.4 overs. Hope played an exceptional knock of 63 runs that included 2 sixes and as many fours while Keacy was 48 not out in the successful run-chase.
