WI vs IND: India Test Squad announced for India vs West Indies Test series

In a massive news development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the India Test squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. The Indian team is scheduled to play 2 Test matches, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is in West Indies starting with the West Indies vs India first Test beginning from 12 July, 2023 at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica. The two-match Test series against West Indies will also mark the beginning of India’s 2023-25 WTC cycle.

BCCI have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in West Indies and the biggest news is that the senior duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav have been dropped from the Indian team that recently lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023 against Australia. Pujara failed to contribute much with the bat in both the innings while Umesh struggled to bowl tight and consistent lines. The trio of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar have been handed their maiden call-ups while it looks like senior pacer Mohammed Shami has reportedly been rested for the entire Windies tour.

On the other hand, after having scored a fighting half-century on his comeback in the national team, Ajinkya Rahane has once again been named as the vice-captain of the Test team. Navdeep Saini has also been included in the side alongside Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat. Both the wicket-keepers, KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan have retained their spots while the rest of the batting line-up remains the same with Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian Test team. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah still remain out of contention due to their respective injury issues. However, Sarfaraz Khan has once again been ignored even after having scored tons of runs in the domestic circuit on a consistent basis.
