Mumbai Indians’ pace attack leader is all set to miss the upcoming IPL season. Bumrah has been an integral part of Mumbai Indians’ success in the IPL over the years. His ability to bowl yorkers and slower balls at the death has won many matches for his team. However, the reason for his absence is his back injury that has been bothering him for some time.
Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing IPL 2023?
Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing IPL 2023? The answer is, Bumrah has been struggling with his back injury since 2019, and it has forced him to miss several matches for India and Mumbai Indians. He also missed the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020 due to the same injury. It was hoped that he would make a full recovery during the break between the IPL and the T20 World Cup. However, that was not the case, and he missed the tournament.
According to a BCCI source, the pacer will take another six months to fully recover from his injury. The source also revealed that Bumrah may require back surgery, which could further delay his comeback. Even if he does recover, his participation in the 50-over World Cup is not guaranteed.
Bumrah’s absence is a big blow to Mumbai Indians’ chances of winning the IPL in 2023. The 5-time champions have refurbished their side ahead of the upcoming season after finishing at the bottom in IPL 2022. They do have Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff in the pace department among the overseas players, however, with no experienced Indian pacer in their arsenal, Mumbai Indians will have to look for a quality replacement of Jasprit Bumrah.
