RCB vs KKR

Who won today’s IPL match?: The sixth match of IPL 2022 saw Kolkata Knight Riders squaring off with Royal Challengers Banglore at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. It was a low scoring thriller that saw both the teams display staggering bowling performance and leave no stone unturned to clinch the match. But in the end it was a clinical effort by the Faf du Plessis-led side to seal the match with 3 wickets in hand.

Today’s IPL match result

Asked to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer struggled against the likes of new ball bowlers in David Willey and Mohammed Siraj. After managing to play three overs, the southpaw fell to Akash Deep on the first ball of the fourth over for 10 runs. Akash Deep the chipped in and removed Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana for 9 and 10 respectively to leave KKR tumbling at 44/3.

The Kolkata based franchise continued to display poor performance with the bat as just in the next over, skipper Shreyas Iyer (13) fell to Wanindu Hasaranga, who after that  removed Sunil Narine as well for 12 runs. Harshal Patel also chipped in and took wickets in Sam Billings (14) and Andre Russell (25). A superlative bowling performance on account of Hasaranga’s four-wicket haul helped RCB restrict KKR to the total of 128 runs.

Defending the target, KKR pacers Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee were on the top of their and extracted swing from the pitch to trouble batsmen. While Yadav removed Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli with his fiery deliveries for duck and 12 runs respectively, Kiwi pacer rattled skipper Faf du Plessis for 5 runs to leave RCB tottering at 17/3.

David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford then led the rescue charge for their team and kept scoring boundaries at regular intervals and notched up 45 runs partnership until the English all-rounder was removed by Sunil Narine for 18 runs. The West Indian batter continued to impress many with both his defensive and aggressive game. He along with Shahbaz Ahmed ticked the scorecard at decent rate to soak in all the pressure until the latter was outfoxed by Varun Chakravarthy for 27 runs.

There was a twist in the tale yet again when Tim Southee removed Rutherford and Wanindu Hasaranga in the same over. With 7 runs needed off the last over, Dinesh Karthik Smashed a massive six on the first ball and sealed the match for side on the next ball with a four.

RCB’s Wanindu Hasaranga was awarded Player of the Match in game 6 of IPL 2022. The Sri Lanka spinner ran through the KKR’s batting line-up and returned with the figures of 4/20. The leg-spinner first removed Shreyas Iyer and Sunil Narine in his first spell. He then returned to the attack and sent Sheldon Jackson for a duck and followed it with a wicket of Tim Southee. He also scored a crucial boundary with a bat towards a fag end of the game and helped his side win the match.
