Who won today’s IPL match?: The fifth match of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw Rajasthan Royals taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad at MCA Stadium in Pune. It’s fair to say that everything RR skipper Sanju Samson touched turned into gold. The Rajasthan-based franchise bossed the game right from the ball 1 and handed the Kane Willamson-led side a massive 61-run defeat.

Asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal went after the SRH bowlers in the power play. While the young Indian batsman fell on the first delivery after power play for 20, the English batsman continued his carnage and smashed a quickfire 35 runs until Umran Malik removed him in the 9th over.

Skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal continued from where Buttler left and took SRH bowlers to cleaners in their 75-run partnership. Malik took his second wicket of the day in Padikkal for 41 runs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed to pick Samson in the 17th over for 55 runs. After that Shimron Hetmyer made sure that RR finish their innings on a high. A brutal 32 runs by him in the end helped his side post a mammoth total of 210 runs on the board.

Defending the target, Rajasthan Royals pacers Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna made SRH openers look clueless with their swing bowling. Skipper Kane Williamson (2), Rahul Tripathi (0) and Nicholas Pooran (0) were back in the hut inside the power play as SRH posted the lowest total in power play (14/3). After that Yuzvendra Chahal’s twin strike in Abhishek Sharma (9) and Abdul Samad (4) saw the “Orange Army” tumbling at 37/5.

Aiden Markram and Romario Shepherd tried their best but in Chahal yet again chipped in and removed the West Indian batter to 24 runs to claim his third wicket of the day. Washington Sundar along with Aiden Markram gave SRH fans something to cheer about in the end. The southpaw scored 40 runs in just  14 balls until he was caught by Hetymer in the deep off Trent Boult. The Proteas batsman stood tall for his side with an unbeaten 57  as RR won the match by 61 runs to start their campaign on high.

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson was awarded Player of the Match in the team’s inaugural match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Samson led from the front and smashed 55 runs in just 27 balls to take his side into a great position. Batting at No.3, the right-hander played with a strike rate of 203.7 and his knock was laced with 5 massive sixes and 3 boundaries. He stitched important partnerships with Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal and helped his side post a massive total on the board. He also took some impressive decisions on the field and rotated his bowlers well.
