Who won today’s IPL match?: IPL 2022 kick-started with a clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai. Leading their teams for the first time, both Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja showed great temperament as captains to lift their side. But in end, KKR were better on the day and handed Men in Yellow a defeat to earn two points.

Asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings were in deep trouble as pacer Umesh Yadav tested the openers with his pace and swing and removed both the openers for 28 runs. Robin Uthappa looked good for his 28-run knock but was outfoxed by Varun Chakravarthy and brilliant stumping by Sheldon Jackson saw him back in the hut.
After that KKR took two quick wickets in Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube and left CSK tottering at 61/5. However, MS Dhoni turned back the clock and gave goosebumps to his fans by smashing an unbeaten half-century. He along with skipper Jadeja registered 71 runs partnership and helped his side post a total of 131 runs on the board.
Chasing the target, KKR openers Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer came out all guns blazing and smashed 43 runs for the opening partnership until Dwayne Bravo removed Venkatesh Iyer for 16 runs and then later in the 10th over sent back Nitish Rana for 21 runs.
Mitchell Santner then came back into the attack and removed well-set Ajinkya Rahane for 44 runs to put KKR in a spot of bother. Bravo took his third wicket of the day in Sam Billings in the 18th over. But in the end, skipper Shreyas Iyer held his nerves well and took his side home comfortably with 6 wickets in hand.
Man of the match today IPL
Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Umesh Yadav was awarded the Player of the Match in the first game of the IPL 2022. The right-arm pacer bowled a sensational spell upfront as he extracted swing from the surface and troubled Chennai Super Kings batsmen. Yadav removed both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway inside the power play and set tone for his side. He returned with the figures of 2/20 in his quota of 4 overs.

The second match of the 15th edition of IPL will take place between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at 3:30 pm IST. It will be followed by the third game between Royal Challengers Banglore and Punjab Kings at 7:30 pm IST.
