New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first, but Indian bowlers, in particular spinners, made mockery of their of batting line up. The hosts bowled 13 overs of spin and troubled the Kiwi batters. Apart from Shivam Mavi, every bowler chipped in with the ball with Arshdeep Singh being the pick of bowlers, returning with the figures of 2/7.

No New Zealand  batter surpassed 20-run mark with Mitchell Santner being the highest run-scorer with 19 runs as they could manage just 99 runs on the board. While chasing India lost Shubman Gill early for 11 runs. But Ishan Kishan steadied the innings with his 18-run knock before he was run out in the 9th over.

Rahul Tripathi looked to attack but perished for 13 runs. Washington Sundar looked good but he too was run out for 10 runs. The game went down the wire and 100 runs looked like a mammoth total for India. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten and smashed 26 runs. He was complimented well by skipper Hardik Pandya, who scored 15 runs, as Indian completed the 6-wicket win to level the series 1-1.

Indian batter Suryakumar Kumar Yadav was awarded Player of the Match in the second T20I against New Zealand. He batted staggering well and took the responsibility on the pitch, where every other batter failed to get going. He scored unbeaten 26 runs and made sure that he take his side home. He scored one four in his innings.
