The Border-Gavaskar Trophy kick started with the Nagpur Test and it was a typical a Indian dominated game at home that saw them batting just once and rattling out the opposition to win the game by innings and 132 runs. Indian spinners along with batters stepped up on the crucial stage and helped India take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Australia won the toss and decided to bat first but the things didn’t get their way as they were bundled out for just 177 runs in the first innings. Only Steve Smith (37) and Marnus Labuschagne (49) looked settled at the crease by the brilliance of Ravindra Jadeja was too much for them to handle.

The all-rounder took fifer and bowled staggering well. He was well complimented by his spin twin R Ashwin, who also took three wickets and helped their side bundle out the opposition for low total. India then started off well with the bat but were outfoxed with the brilliant bowling of Todd Murphy, who picked seven-wicket haul.

Skipper Rohit Sharma kept his side in the hunt and smashed a staggering century to revive his side innings, that was at once tumbling at 168/5. After that it was a sensational performance from the lower-order that helped India post a total of 400 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja (70) and Axar Patel (84) smashed brilliant half-centuries and Mohammad Shami played a cameo of 37 runs that helped India take a lead of over 220 runs. R Ashwin then shined with the ball as he picked his 31st five-wicket haul in the Tests and along with contributions from Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Mohammad Shami helped his side bundle out the opposition for 91 runs and win the game by innings and 132 runs.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was awarded Player of the Match in the first Test between India and Australia. In what was his first match for India after six months, the southpaw contributed staggeringly well with both bat and ball. He picked fifer in the first innings and batted with class, scoring 70 runs. If this wasn’t enough he then took two wickets in the second innings and guided his team to the win.
