Indian captain Virat Kohli’s indifferent form continued as he was dismissed early once again during the first Test between India and New Zealand in Wellington. More than anything, Kohli’s dismissal reminded everybody about the way he has gotten out in the past on various occasions. He was caught by the first slip after going for an ambitious drive towards the cover region.
Watch: Kohli gets out edging one to the slips
The incident took place in the 18th over of India’s first innings when the visitors were struggling at 40 for 2. Test debutant Kyle Jamieson had just bowled a few short deliveries to the Indian skipper who had just arrived at the crease. After this, he landed one ball in the good length and invited Kohli to go for a drive through the covers. Kohli pushed at the ball but all he could manage was one edge, which simply carried the ball to the first slip. Ross Taylor didn’t miss the opportunity and took a good catch. The right-handed batsman was dismissed for just two runs from seven balls. Watch the dismissal here:

What is interesting is the fact that poking deliveries outside the off-stump and getting out has been a thing for the Indian skipper now. Back in 2014, when India toured England, the 31-year old had faced issues against the swinging ball. But in 2018, when India once again was in England, Kohli’s batting was class apart compared to any other batsmen in the series.
India in a tough situation as Rahane works hard for runs in Wellington
India was asked to bat first after New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss on a green wicket in Wellington. India lost three quick wickets in the first session, before Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship slightly. But Agarwal was also out caught after the lunch break. As the day’s play halted for the tea break, India found themselves at 122 for 5 after 55 overs. Rahane was at the crease with Rishabh Pant, grinding their way through against some quality bowling by the Kiwi lineup.
