It was deemed dead ball straight away. However Smith danced down the track and lofted it over mid-on. It was called a dead ball by the umpire. This outrageous hitting of a dead ball by Smith was received with huge boos from the South African fans. It is the first South African tour for Steve Smith and David Warner after the famous Sandpaper gate incident.
Aussies posts a decent total
Despite losing Warner in the very first over of the match, Australia got off to a terrific start scoring 70 runs in the powerplay. Finch and Smith capitalized on the loose deliveries bowled by both of the South African seamers Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. The Chinaman bowler Shamsi curtailed the flow of runs in the middle overs and brought the match in South Africa’s control. He bowled four overs for just 31 runs and took two wickets at crucial intervals even though he gave away so many extras. However keeper Alex Carey once again played a smart innings and stitched a half century partnership with Mitchell Marsh and set the stage up for Ashton Agar to finish things of at the end, taking Aussies to a formidable total of 196.
