Unorthodox shots are synonymous with the South African veteran AB de Villiers. Playing the 48th league match of the IPL 2020 against Mumbai Indians, the RCB batsmen took the unconventional approach and ramped the MI pacer James Pattinson for a massive six over the wicket keepers head.
ABD plays an outrageous shot against Pattinson
Put in to bat first by the MI stand-in skipper Kieron Pollard, RCB got off to a great start. Both their young openers Josh Phillipe and Devdutt Padikkal started taking on the MI bowlers quite early on in the innings. Josh went after scoring a well placed 33 runs from 24 balls. Whereas Padikkal batted throughout till the 17th over scoring 74 off just 45 balls. Captain Kohli disappointed with a mere score of 9 runs from 14 balls. But the man who came in after him was a man who was capable of scoring all across the ground- Abraham Benjamin de Villiers. Known for his unorthodox shots, he impressed his fans with one such out of the box shot in the 14th over of the match. James Pattinson who was bowling that over bowled a quick 140.7 Km/h delivery in the fourth ball to trick ABD. But he being the genius that he is, used the pace of the ball and got across the line and ramped it over the keepers head for a glamorous six.
RCB middle-order collapses
After getting a positive start from both the openers, RCB fell behind MI as they lost both their premier batsmen Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in quick succession. Despite playing un-orthodox ramp shots and looking in fine touch, ABD didn’t manage to stay long enough in the crease. He was dismissed for 15 runs by MI skipper Kieron Pollard. Batsmen who came in after him including the likes of Morris and Dube failed to make an impact and departed quickly. Hence they were forced to end their innings on 164-6 in the span of 20 overs.
