In the quest to win a T20I series in New Zealand, India has definitely started on the right note. For the second time in the series, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first. Considering the history of this high-scoring ground, the decision was obvious.
The in-form KL Rahul along with the ‘Hitman” Rohit Sharma came out to start the proceedings for the visitors. Rahul was exquisite right from the start owing to his purple-patch in this series. However, things weren’t that smooth for the Hitman who struggled with scores of 7 and 8 in this series so far.
One good over was needed by Rohit Sharma to get back into the zone, and it was Hamish Bennett who became the target.
Rohit Sharma goes berserk against Hamish Bennett
Hamish Bennett gave away 13 in his very first over which included a six by KL Rahul over the third game. Skipper Kane Williamson didn’t lose his trust over the seamer and brought him back for the 6th over of the innings which was also the final over of the fielding restrictions.
KL Rahul took a single of the very first ball and handed the strike to Rohit who went berserk in the next five balls.
The first delivery he faced, it went flying over the backward square leg boundary for a maximum. The next ball went toeing over long on for yet another maximum, the two sixes were followed by two boundaries at the backward point region, whereas, the final ball of the over was once again hoiked over the bowlers head for a six.
Rohit Sharma's 26 runs off Hamish Bennett's over – is the 2nd most by an Indian batsman in a single over in T20Is.
