Indian bowlers rattled NZ XI batting

After a disappointing show from the batsmen on the opening day, the Indian fast bowling duo of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah enjoyed the day on a green Seddon Park pitch as the two rattled New Zealand on Day 2 of their tour practice match at Hamilton on Saturday.

After being bowled out for 263 on Day 1 of the practice match, Indian bowlers curtailed a few concerns for the visiting side ahead of the 1st Test in Wellington as they reduced New Zealand to 180 for 7 before taking the Tea, courtesy a disciplined bowling show from Shami and Bumrah.

Bumrah’s was a concern for the Indian side ahead of the 2-match Test series as the pace spearhead went wicketless in the recently concluded ODI series where the visitors were whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand. However, Bumrah got back to wicket-taking ways as soon as he began the proceeding with the new red ball on Saturday.

Will Young and Rachin Ravindra came out to open for New Zealand on Day 2 as Bumrah removed the former cheaply in the 3rd over itself.

Mohammed Shami, who was rested for the last 2 ODIs to start fresh in the Test series, thereafter Tim Seifert to leave New Zealand reeling at 36 for 2. Bumrah struck again immediately after Lunch to remove the well-set Finn Allen. Shami then denied Cooper a fifty and came back to castle Jimmy Neesham for just one.

Other Performances

Other than the mentioned fast bowlers, India had also tried Navdeep Saini and Umesh Yadav and the two picked a wicket each. Ravindra Jadeja had bowled 3 overs till Tea while Ravichandran Ashwin proved comparitively expensive in his 13 overs.

Rishabh Pant who was kept away from his wicketkeeping duties in the concluded 5-matchT20I and 3-match ODI series against New Zealand picked up the gloves again but was substituted by Wriddhiman Saha after the Lunch.
