Former Indian opener and current cricketing expert Aakash Chopra has picked the best ODI openers of all time. The former Indian Test opener revealed in a video on his youtube channel and picked 6 names who according to him are the best ODI openers of all time.

His picks were Sachin Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist, Sourav Ganguly, Hashim Amla, Rohit Sharma and Sanath Jayasuriya. Naming these ODI stalwarts he also stated that he isn’t rating any of these batsmen on a scale of 1 to 6.
Apart from Rohit Sharma, none of the other batsmen is currently active in cricket as they have already taken retirement.

Talking about Sachin Tendulkar, the master batsman is the highest ODI run-getter. Even as an ODI opener, he holds the record of most runs with 15310 runs at an average of 48.3, striking at 88.3 with highest score of 200*. He was the first-ever batsman to score a double-century in ODI cricket.
Chopra’s next pick was Sri Lanka’s great Sanath Jayasuriya. The swashbuckling left-hander has amassed 12740 runs as an ODI opener averaging 34.6 and striking at 92.5. His highest score in ODIs remains 189.
Australia’s dynamic wicket-keeper opener Adam Gilchrist was next on Aakash Chopra‘s list. The Western Australian has been one of the fiercest openers the game has ever produced. He has managed 9200 runs at an average of 36.5 and with a career strike-rate of 98.
Next in Aakash Chopra’s list was one of the finest Indian leaders Sourav Ganguly. The Bengal tiger has scored 9146 runs as on ODI opener at an average of 41.8 with a healthy strike-rate of 73.6.
Former Proteas opener Hashim Amla has been one of the finest run-getters for his side. He made it to Aakash Chopra’s list with 8083 runs at a staggering average of 49.9 along with a strike-rate of 88.7.
Current Indian opener Rohit Sharma was Chopra’s final pick in this context. The dashing right-hander has the best average in the list. He has managed 7148 runs at an average of 58.1 and a strike-rate of 92.3. With 3 double centuries in ODI’s, he has been a class apart.
