Wasim Jaffer Rebuffs “Religious Bias Allegations”, After Stepping Down As Uttarakhand Coach

Wasim Jaffer is a well-known name in the Indian domestic circuit. The veteran has won many Ranji Trophies with Mumbai and Vidarbha. Jaffer is very much active on Twitter these days and posts interesting tweets cum banter every other day on social media. Recently, he was appointed as the head coach of the Uttarakhand team.
However, a couple of days back, Wasim Jaffer resigned from the role. Several rumors and allegations started doing rounds immediately after Jaffer stepped down from the head coach position indicating that the veteran was biased against non-muslim players and wanted a maulvi inside the bio bubble of the Uttarakhand team.

The former Indian cricket has now decided to clear the air. Jaffer said that he had actually quit his role because of the lack of structure in the Uttarakhand cricket system and the interference of the administration in team selection.
“The allegations which have been made, these are serious allegations… The communal angle that has been leveled against me, that is very very sad, that I come and speak about it… you all know me and have seen me for a long time, so you all know how I am,” Jaffer said in a press conference.
Jaffer further clarified that Iqbal Abdullah, a player, had actually asked the Maulvi to come, but also stated that the bio-bubble was not breached. Jaffer also shared an incident where there was interference from the administration/board regarding team selection, which he didn’t entertain.

I wouldn’t have resigned, they would have sacked me – Jaffer
The veteran went on to say that if there was a community angle, then he would have been fired.
“This (communal bias) is a serious allegation. And if there were indeed a communal bias, I wouldn’t have resigned, they would have sacked me,” Jaffer concluded.
