Virender Sehwag finally revealed the inspiration behind his infamous batting technique.
The former Indian opener was seen as great potential in the shorter format of the game when he was starting out his cricket career, but he was written off as a Batsman in the test match due to his non-existent “footwork” and “predictable technique.” But he made up for that with his exceptional hand-eye coordination and aggression.
Sehwag posted a still from the iconic “Ramayan” TV show, where Angad, Bali’s son and a messenger sent by King Ram in his last bid to stop the war, is standing in the court with his right foot firmly on the ground, while one of Ravan’s man tries to move his foot. He captioned the photo:
“So here is where I took my batting inspiration from. Pair hilana mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai. #Angad Ji Rocks.”

As you may know, nobody could move Angad’s foot, including Ravan’s powerful son Meghanada, also known as Indrajit, named after he won Indra Lok from Indra. Sehwag was more or less the same. He hardly moved his feet while batting and yet managed to amass runs in abundance across all formats.

The 41-year-old represented India in 104 Test matches and racked up runs at a batting average of 49.34. He remains the only Indian Batsman till date to score two triple hundreds in Test, 309 against Pakistan in Multan in 2004, for which he has been christened as “Multan ka Sultan” by fans and pundits alike, and 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.
