Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested in the two match T20I series against South Africa, has been ruled out from the test series against following a lower back injury. Umesh Yadav has been named as his replacement.
“Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back and has been ruled out of the upcoming Paytm Freedom Series for Gandhi-Mandela Trophy against South Africa” said a BCCI tweet.
The injury was detected during a ‘routine radiological screening’ and the pacer will now undergo rehabilitation at the NCA in Bangalore and will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team, BCCI said in a statement.
It is certainly a big blow for team India as Jasprit Bumrah has been in red-hot form, picking up 13 wickets in two Tests in West Indies that included two five-wicket hauls and a hat-trick too.
Umesh Yadav to miss next Vijay Hazare fixture
Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav gets a well deserved call-up as he has been a constant feature in home Tests for the last couple of years. Umesh picked 10 wickets against Windies in his last test at home, last October.
The first test begins on October 2 in Visakhapatnam with the second and third to be played in Pune and Ranchi.
Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami are the other two pacers in the squad for the South Africa test series.
