WILL TRY MY BEST TO WIN THE WORLD CUP: STEYN
South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn feels that there’s no need of him playing limited overs after the 2019 World Cup. After suffering multiple injuries recently, the veteran cricketer has hinted of retirement.
“I’ll give my best to win the World Cup in 2019 in England. But after that, I don’t think I’ll play limited overs cricket for South Africa. By the time the World Cup 2019 ends, I will be 40,” said Steyn at a promotional event, in Mumbai on Thursday.
However, Steyn hopes that his huge experience in his playing would help him earn a position in the UK bound World Cup squad.
“I really hope that will serve as my trump card when the selections come to the World Cup. I may not be playing at all time. But I surely think that my experience will help me in just being there,” he said.
MIGHT CONTINUE PLAYING TEST CRICKET
“When it comes to Test cricket, I would like to play as long as possible. I have finally come out of a cloud of injuries. I broke my shoulder and in my first game on return. It was rotten luck.”
“It’s quite difficult to come back from a broken shoulder, especially with your bowling arm. I feel that’s gone and now I am fit. Recently, I played two test matches without any injury, bowled a good pace too and never really went off the field because of niggles. It’s a big plus,” he added.
Steyn, however, struggled for wickets against Sri Lanka. He took one wicket each in the two innings of the opening Test but couldn’t gather any in the second test.
“Wickets are something that’s not guaranteed. I am happy I came out 100 per cent (fitness wise). That’s the biggest cloud I have gotten over, especially after the last two years,” he explained.
