UAE to host IPL 2020 in September: Report

There is a breath of fresh news coming in from the BCCI that the 2020 edition of the most prestigious tournament -The Indian premier league (IPL) will indeed happen in the United Arab Emirates.

How will UAE as a venue fare for IPL 2020?

The united Arab Emirates has already hosted a part of IPL back in 2014 and it was a very successful event. The general elections in India back in that year forced the board to conduct initial part of the league in the 3 international stadiums available in the country.

The stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai are not far away from each other and there are ample lodging venues around the stadiums to accommodate the players and support staff of all the franchises.

It is a well known fact that the UAE, Srilanka and New Zealand have all come forward to host the whole of IPL 2020 edition owing to the Corona Virus situation in India. Considering the fact that UAE have already hosted a successful event earlier and there won’t be much of a time difference for audience in India if the matches are in UAE, reports suggest that UAE will host the event by September.

No official word yet from Ganguly

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has time and again stated that the BCCI will do everything in its power to host the mega league which if not goes ahead will incur a loss of about 4000 crores revenue for the board. Sourav Ganguly has not yet made an official statement about the happening of IPL in UAE but the matter was put forth to a team owner and the response was positive.

Given Corona virus protocols, matches in the UAE will be held in front of empty stadiums. “That’s not a problem. IPL is more made for TV and the gate receipts will not be as much even if the crowds come in,” said a team owner. He also added –“ We need a month to prepare but our overseas players will be ready to play.”
