The UAE cricket board has given a massive update regarding the lucrative Indian Premier League. UAE to host the IPL?
The Emirates cricket board has now confirmed that they have made an official offer to the BCCI to stage the mega cricket carnival in UAE. They have hosted the initial part of the tournament way back in 2014, as BCCI had to move the tournament outside India due to the general elections in the country.
“In the past, Emirates Cricket Board has successfully hosted IPL matches in UAE. We have a proven record of being hosts as a neutral venue for various bilateral and multi-nation cricket activities in the past,” its general secretary Mubashshir Usmani said.
“Our state-of-the-art venues and facilities make the Emirates a desired place for hosting all types of cricket” he added.
UAE to be the home venue for England?
UAE which served as the home venue for Pakistan as other nations refused to tour Pakistan will now probably end up being the home venue of yet another cricketing nation.
General Secretary of the Emirates Board, Mr. Usmani said the Board had, in fact, offered their venues to England and Wales Cricket Board to complete the English season.
“We have come forward and offered our venues to both England and India. We have also hosted matches involving the England team on multiple occasions previously. If our offer is taken up by either of the Boards, then we will be pleased to facilitate the hosting of their matches,” he said.
BCCI keen on staging the IPL in India
In their earlier press release, The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) had stated that they are waiting for the situation in India to fall back to normal stage. The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier mentioned that the first preference of the board will be to stage the tournament in India, but if the situation in India still remains to be in jeopardy, then they’ll look for other alternate options.
If the situation in India worsens, then BCCI will have to look for other venues to host the mega event. As of now, apart from UAE, the Sri Lankan board also have made an offer to the BCCI to stage the lucrative tournament in the Island nation.
