Opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has finally made it to India’s Test team. The Karnataka batsman is having an incredible run in the domestic cricket since the last one year and he is now rewarded for his consistency.
Mayank in the squad for Test series against West Indies
India is set to play two Tests against West Indies starting from October 04. The team management has roped in Agarwal in the place of Shikhar Dhawan who was abysmal in the Test series against England.

India has selected three openers in the squad. KL Rahul will certainly be India’s first-choice opener while the team management will pick one among Prithvi Shaw and Agarwal as his partner.
The Test series will decide India’s opening pair for the tour of Australia which is scheduled after the West Indies series. It seems that India has already moved on with Murali Vijay and now Dhawan’s omission could be an indication that India is looking for a fresh opening combination.
Agarwal gets rewarded for hard work
In his last 36 innings, the opening batsman has scored 2253 runs and that too at an astonishing strike rate. He scored 1160 runs in the Ranji trophy with five centuries and then continued the same form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy where he belted 258 runs at a strike rate of 145. He was equally prolific in the Vijay Hazare trophy and blasted 723 runs at an average of 76.46.
The Karnataka batsman also performed well in the India A tours and now has gained the opportunity to prove his mettle at the highest level.
Twitter congratulates Agarwal for making it to India’s Test team
Soon after India’s Test squad was announced, former cricketers, fans and cricket analysts expressed their delight on Twitter. According to many fans, the 27-year-old cricketer deserved this opportunity while some fans felt this reward came a little late.
Well deserved call up for Mayank Agarwal and Siraj. Hopefully both will get some game time. Prithvi must play too. It’s going to be an interesting selection for the playing XI. #IndvWI

Finally Mayank Agarwal gets a call up. Was long due. Also very happy for Mohammad Siraj, has earned it through impressive performances for the A team.

Couldn't be happier for Mayank Agarwal. Finally gets his due. From what I've seen of him in the IPL and the domestic circuit, his batting has been most delightful. Very reminiscent of a certain Virender Sehwag. Let's hope he is Viru's successor!@mayankcricket All the best!

Mayank Agarwal deserved to be selected after what he did in last couple of years.. Gotta feel for Murli Vijay and Karun Nair though.. #INDvWI #TestSelection

Not selecting Rohit & Dhawan was the right decision. Finally the selectors are differentiating between ODI & Test performance. Prithvi Shaw & Mayank Agarwal shud be given a chance now & groomed for the future. We need good test batsmen for the next tour in Australia.
