Cricket is often called a gentleman’s game. Being a cricketer is being an idol for many, he must be away from all types of misdeeds in and out of the field. We bring you, Top 7 bad boys of cricket, in the game today.
David Warner
Warner was sent back home for punching England batsman Joe Root in a Birmingham bar during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, he along with his Test captain Smith and Cameron Bancroft tampered with the ball by using yellow sandpaper during the third Test against South Africa. Warner and Smith were both banned for a year.
Kieron Pollard
He always enjoys a good contest on the field. The trademark stopping of his run without actually bowling during crucial junctures of a match gets to the nerves of every batsman, the biggest of which was the incident with Mitchell Starc in an IPL match between MI and RCB that lead to a heated fight. He was also fined by Cricket Australia (CA) for hitting the pitch with the bat and leaving a mark on the pitch after getting out.
Sabbir Rahman
Assaulting a fan, hitting a teammate, late-night hotel shenanigans Rahman has done it all. He is the undisputed bad boy of Bangladesh cricket. Rahman has already been stripped of his national contract, been served a six-month domestic ban and has been fined for his behaviour.
Ben Stokes
England’s World cup hero’s career almost came to an abrupt halt when he was involved in a nightclub brawl that saw him knock a man unconscious. A jury at the Bristol Town Crown court eventually acquitted Stokes after a seven-day trial that allowed him to return to the England team. What followed was probably the best year in Stokes cricketing career.
Andre Russel
The big-hitting Jamaican was banned from all forms of cricket for 12 months in 2017 when he was found guilty of a doping violation in his homeland. He failed to file his whereabouts on three occasions in 2015 – akin to a failed drugs test under World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines.
Hardik Pandya & KL Rahul
The two young Indian cricketers found themselves at the centre of a media controversy after being guests on a television programme, Koffee with Karan, in January. Both were fined by the BCCI for “sexist, disrespectful and racist” comments made towards women on the show. They later apologized for their actions and made a strong comeback to the national side.
Dimuth Karunaratne
The newly appointed Sri Lankan captain is in no short of any controversy. He was arrested for going through a red light before hitting a taxi driver.
There have been a plethora of unedifying incidents that have taken place on the cricket field in recent times, and sledging is now unfortunately considered a part and parcel of the game.
