Todd Murphy Stats: Todd Murphy, the young and talented off spinner from Australia, has made his mark on the cricket world with a brilliant performance in his debut Test match against India. Playing at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Murphy stole the show with his outstanding 5-fer in his debut game.
Murphy’s spell was the highlight of the match for Australia in an otherwise overwhelming day for the bowlers. He single-handedly kept Australia in the game with 5 for 68 from 28 overs. In his very first over, he dismissed the Indian opener KL Rahul on the closing period of day 1 with a perfect flighted delivery that caught the batsman by surprise. The next wicket to fall was that of Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian all-rounder, who was trapped before the wickets after a well-directed delivery from Murphy. Cheteshwar Pujara was the next batter to get dismissed as he was caught by Scott Boland at short fine leg.
The biggest wicket of Murphy’s spell, however, came when he dismissed Virat Kohli. The former Indian skipper is known to be a tough customer and one of the best batsmen in the world, but Murphy made light work of him, dismissing him with a delivery that was way behind his leg side, but wicket keeper Alex Carey’s sharp reflexes were too good for Virat.

Murphy hails from Echuca and was brought up in Moama. He was discovered by the renowned spin coach Craig Howard at the tender age of 16, and since then has been honing his off-spin abilities. His impressive performance in the 2020 U19 World Cup, where he claimed seven wickets, led to his recognition and emergence as a promising cricketer.
