KL Rahul who played a vital role in the match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup by scoring 60 runs off 66 balls says that this match will stay in the memories and it was exciting to play against Afghanistan who according to Rahul are are very competitive as a one-day and T20 side.
After restricting Afghanistan to 252 runs, India started solidly courtesy of Rahul and Ambati Rayudu’s 11o run opening partnership. But a disciplined bowling performance by spinners and some unfortunate umpiring decisions brought India’s middle order crashing down and in the end India could only secure a tie.
Rahul was adjudged LBW against Rashid Khan and the Indian batsman took a review which was eventually turned down by the third umpire. This proved fatal to the team as India was at the receiving end of some rough umpiring decisions in the later part of the innings.
Rahul said that obviously, looking back at it, he felt like he shouldn’t have taken the review but at that time, in the middle, he felt like maybe he was struck outside and he wanted to take that chance.

However he looked at the positive side of the story and noted that everyone learns with it. The shot he played, the review that he took, he have to go back and maybe if it happens again he will be in a better position to know what to do.
At the same time the Indian opener refused to blame the middle order for failing to finish the game. He said he doesn’t think the team crumbled. He pointed out that when the ball starts slowing up and spinning like that, it is hard for middle order batsmen to come in and get the runs going. Rahul said that DK played really well, few good partnerships with Kedar and, in the end, Jadeja and Deepak Chahar put up a decent fight.
