As per sources the tournament could be move to the September-October window depending on the scenario in the near future.

“Yes, the BCCI has intimated us that IPL has been postponed for the time being but they are hopeful of finding a window later this year as and when things normalise,” a veteran franchise official expressed.

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had also weighed into the matter expressing about the complications ahead.

“You can’t plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It’s there and you can’t change the FTP. All around the world, cricket and more so sports has stopped,” he had said.

The sporting world in lock-down

It’s not just cricket, but every other sport in the globe which has vastly been affected as a result of the ongoing crisis. Events such as the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Wimbledon, NBA are among those that have been suspended.

The pandemic could also act as a hurdle for the upcoming T20 World Cup that was set to take place in Australia at the start of October this year.

The virus has infected over 11000 people in India and has led to 377 deaths so far.

The BCCI has also chipped in by contributing Rs 51 crore to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund to help those affected by the outbreak.
