T20 World Cup to go ahead as per schedule: Reports

News circulated a day before that the T20 World Cup 2020 is likely to be cancelled. This news was far more dreadful for the cricket fans around the globe then the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
However, there’s one new report which suggests, the tournament is likely to go ahead as per the schedule and there won’t be any delays. The tournament as of now is set to get underway from October 18 and the final will be played on November 15th at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
‘Nothing has changed’: ICC Source on T20 World Cup
The ICC officials are aware of the impact COVID-19 has put on sporting events all around the globe. The Tokyo Olympics which were scheduled to take place in June this year have been postponed till July 23rd, 2021, and many other sporting events have also been affected.
However, ICC is still going ahead with the proposed date and have stated that ‘nothing has changed’.
“Nothing has changed since the board meeting release and no member is asking for a date change as of now”. “In response to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities, and will continue to do so,” ICC had said in a statement. “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October – 15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled,”
What’s new in this edition?
This ICC T20 World Cup will be played in Australia who will be hosting this marquee event for the first time. There will be 14 teams in this edition which is the biggest so far in a T20 World Cup.
The top eight ranked teams are divided into two groups, whereas, the other six teams will start the tournament out of which 4 teams will proceed into the final 12. The format is a bit different and is going to be interesting as well.
