According to the Prosecutors, Stokes was the ‘main aggressor’ in a fight that broke out after an England match. However, theĀ 27-year-old cricketer denied the charge against him.
In a statement provided to police, Stokes mentioned that he only intervened after he heard two men being discriminatory towards two other men.
Stokes said in the court, “matters had become too serious to ignore and that I had to intervene.”
Earlier, Stokes was accused of making fun of gay men outside the club and throwing a cigarette butt at them. Stokes denied any such happening but rather said āthey thanked me for preventing them from being beaten up”
STOKES NOT TO BE PART OF ENGLAND TEST SQUAD AT LORD’S
However, he will not be seen around in the second Test at Lord’s which is yet to begin due to endless rain in London.
For now, Stokes is in fine form with the ball. He took 3 wickets in the first Test as the hosts completed a 31-run win at Edgbaston. England is leading the five-match Test series by 1-0.
England captain Joe Root confirmed the news on Wednesday that Dawid Malan has been dropped. In his place, the 20-year-old Surrey batsman Pope would make his debut at Lord’s.
