Star Sports Staff Corona Positive: In a major development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season, 14 member of the Star Sports broadcast team have tested positive for coronavirus. It has been reported that the infected members who were part of the broadcast bio-bubble includes directors, EVS operators, producers, cameraman, producers and video editors. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is already countering a lot of troubles due to the recent spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

According to recent reports, the broadcast team was staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai under a strict bio-secure bubble environment. However, Star Sports Head Sanjog Gupta has completely refrained from making comments over this development and instead asked to collect the details from the BCCI. It is also understood that the Star Network had already showed their concerns to the BCCI over the idea of hosting IPL 2021 games at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai due to the recent COVID-19 panic situation in the state.
“Star is concerned about their broadcast crew. If the ground-staff and event management team is getting Covid-19 infected – the same can happen to Star’s crew. They have to closely mingle around with both ground staff as well as the event team. That is the reason Star is very concerned about the situation” a BCCI source was quoted as saying in Insidesport.

Rising number of COVID-19 cases puts IPL 2021 in danger?
Earlier, it was confirmed that Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Devdutt Padikkal have tested positive for COVID-19. Several member of the groundstaff at the Wankhede Stadium have also contracted to the deadly virus. Maharashtra has witnessed almost 50 percent of the total cases in India during this recent COVID-19 second wave. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has already confirmed that the 10 games scheduled in Mumbai will go as per the decided IPL 2021 time table.
