Indian Cricket Team faced a set-back before the New Zealand T20 series as the left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the series due to shoulder injury. Dhawan did not travel with the India squad that left for Auckland on Monday and the selectors have not named a replacement yet.
Shikhar Dhawan’s injury:
Dhawan picked up a shoulder injury during the third ODI against Australia at Chinnaswamy on Sunday. Dhawan injured his left shoulder after falling awkwardly while diving trying to stop a drive from Aaron Finch at cover-point in the 5th over of Australia’s innings in the 3rd and final ODI.
He soon left the field with Physio clutching his shoulder and didn’t open for India as KL Rahul came out to bat for the chase. Dhawan later was seen in the Indian dressing room with his arm in a sling after India won the game and sealed the series.
Shikhar Dhawan’s comeback ruined:
The news is not a good one for Shikhar Dhawan and Indian fans as the Southpaw only made a comeback to the Indian side against Australia after sitting out on the sidelines due to a leg injury he picked up while playing in a Ranji match for Delhi.
He came back strongly as he played 2 magnificent knocks of 74 and 96 in the first 2 games respectively. The series also held a lot of importance for Dhawan chances to make it to ICC T20 World Cup 2020 squad as KL Rahul is making his case stronger for the opening slot with each passing game.
What’s Next?
The BCCI selection committee is soon expected to name the replacement for the injured southpaw. Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Mayank Aggarwal are the front-runners for the place.
