Sri Lankan player stretchered off the field after being hit on head

In England Test team’s warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI, Sri Lankan cricketer Pathum Nissanka was hit on the head by a shot played by Jos Buttler. The injury was so severe that the Sri Lankan fielder was stretchered off the field and was then rushed to the local hospital for further treatment.
Nissaka suffers serious injury
The Sri Lankan cricketer Nissaka was fielding at the short-leg position when a pull shot played by England batsman Jos Buttler struck on his head. The 20-year-old was wearing a helmet but the blow was so severe that he straight away removed the helmet and started rubbing his head.
England support staff assist the injured fielder
Seeing Nissaka in trouble, England’s support staff immediately rushed to the ground and offered assistance. England’s medical staff, consisting of team doctor Moiz Moghal, physio Craig de Weymarn, and massage therapist Mark Saxby checked the injuries and provided medical assistance.
The Sri Lankan player was then carefully lifted on to a stretcher with his head braced and was taken off the field. He was then rushed to the local hospital for further medical attention.

The 20-year-old was conscious but complained of soreness in his neck. The right-hand batsman has featured in 14 first-class games and 10 List A games. He averages an impressive 53.13 in 26 first-class innings and has amassed 1169 runs with four hundreds.
I feared for the worst: Buttler
England batsman Jos Buttler who played the shot that injured Nissaka was asked about the incident after the match. The right-hand batsman admitted that in such situations you always fear the worst. He explained that he hit him very hard and straight in the middle of the helmet but luckily the doctor and physio rushed straight on and treated him. He added that it’s good to know that he’s doing better.
Buttler further said that of course, you don’t mean to cause injury, and it is just a real unfortunate accident but the Sri Lankan is doing a lot better.
