The last super-4 match of the thrilling Asia Cup has kick-started with Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka. Both these sides are to face each other on Sunday in the much-awaited final. Just before the high-profile SL vs PAK clash, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka made an interesting change to their winning combination. He brought in a debutant named Pramod Madushan in place of the seasoned campaigner Asitha Fernando. And this move has made people wonder who this unheard cricketer is.

Even though he is an unfamiliar name in the international circuit, Madushan has been a consistent performer in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit for the last couple of years. He, who is aged 28 bowls right-arm fast-medium and has played for teams like Jaffna District, Kandy, and Sri Lanka A in the domestic circuit. He was included in Sri Lanka A squad for their matches against Australia A during Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka in June, this year. Impressive performances in those matches, led to him being drafted to the Sri Lankan ODI squad for the series against Australia. He made his ODI debut on 24 June 2022, for Sri Lanka against Australia and picked up 1 wicket in that match.

Madushan is a seasoned performer in the domestic circuit, especially in the shortest format of the game. His numbers in T20s are quite impressive. He has 38 wickets in this format from just 32 matches, that too at an economy of just 7.14. These impressive numbers have earned him a place in the Sri Lankan T20I squad for the Asia Cup and Dambulla Giants squad for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League to be held later this year.
