Following India’s commanding 4-1 victory in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, attention now shifts to the upcoming Sri Lanka vs India 2024 series, beginning 27 July. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the squad on or before 21 July.
Gautam Gambhir, the newly-appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, will commence his tenure with the six white-ball matches scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka. The T20I series will wrap up on July 30 in Pallekele, followed by the ODIs on August 2, 4, and 7 in Colombo.

The BCCI selection committee will soon deliberate to finalize the India squad for the Sri Lanka tour. A significant number of players from the recent Shubman Gill-led squad against Zimbabwe are expected to be retained. Hardik Pandya is anticipated to be named the permanent T20I captain. From the Zimbabwe series, the likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Ravi Bishnoi, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Abhishek Shrama and Avesh Khan are likely to continue for the Sri Lanka tour.
Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande could miss out. Key players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to return after resting post India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the West Indies.
