Sri Lanka vs India, 1st T20I: India rang in quite a few changes in the third ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Rahul Dravid and the team management decided to field as many as five debutants in the final game. The focus now shifts to the T20I series. All three games are scheduled to be played in the same stadium in the Sri Lankan capital.
Karthik Hints at Mystery Spinner Debut
Indian cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik has predicted a mystery spinner could start the first T20 international between the two Asian sides. It doesn’t take a cricket aficionado to guess who he is pointing at. Varun Chakravarthy will hope he gets third time lucky as he has come close to playing for India before. The last two times, he was overlooked because of fitness concerns.
Karthik knows all about Chakravarthy as he has captained him in KKR. The spinner was a favorite of Karthik and was regularly picked over Kuldeep Yadav for the Kolkata side. The veteran Indian wicket-keeper took to Twitter to post the following cryptic message:
I get the feeling, a mystery spinner is going to make his debut for ?? tonight in Colombo ? #INDvSL #T20Cricket #T20I

Spinners have traditionally done well in Sri Lanka and Chakravarthy is more than capable of bamboozling the opposition. He will be eager to do well if he gets an opportunity.

Sri Lanka vs India: Varun Chakravarthy IPL
Chakravarthy hit the headlines when he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping INR 8.4 crore at the auctions prior to IPL 2019. He proved to be a costly buy and played a solitary match that season. The following year, he was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders who already had a mystery spinner in Sunil Narine in their ranks.
The Tamil Nadu bowler did not disappoint and had a successful year, picking up 17 wickets from 13 games. The highlight of his season was a five-wicket haul against the Delhi Capitals. The leggie has continued his good form in the 2021 IPL and has picked up 7 wickets from 7 games.
