IPL start date: With the rising cases of COVID-19 in India, it was surely inevitable that the IPL 2021 will be suspended. However, there are now reports coming in that the star studded league may very well resume in the final few months of 2021. One of the boards who have offered their grounds for the remaining season is Sri Lanka Cricket.
Former Sri Lanka Captain Arjuna de Silva expressed how the IPL 2021 could take place in September in their nation, as their very own Lankan Premier League is also to be conducted in a matter of months.
Sri Lanka to host IPL 2021?
“Yes, we can certainly provide a window to host the IPL in the month of September. We hear the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is their one option but Sri Lanka can not be ignored for all reasons,” said Prof. Arjuna de Silva in a recent interview.
“We are planning to host the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in July-August and the grounds and other infrastructure will be ready for the IPL in September”, he added.

When will IPL resume and where?
In spite of offering their venue, it is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which is being considered as the primary alternative. The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) quite successfully hosted the IPL 2020, and even earned staggering revenue of close to 100 crores.
Other than the UAE, England is another option which can be considered by the BCCI. Since the Indian cricket team will be in England by the end of May for the ICC WTC Final against New Zealand that will be played in June, and it will be followed up by the five-match Test series against England, the governing body could look at it as an alternative.
Australia is another option for the BCCI, considering the fact that the Australian Government eases their policies in the next four months.
