The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have finally opened their account in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) season having registered a pretty convincing 8-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. For the Sunrisers Hyderabad, while playing his first match of IPL 2023 for a new franchise, right-arm leg spinner Mayank Markande was the star performer having bowled a superb spell of 4 for 15 from his quota of four overs. He dismissed the likes of Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Chahar and Nathan Ellis as he never really allowed the Punjab Kings to find any momentum with the bat. Despite, Markande’s brilliant four-wicket haul, it was Shikhar Dhawan’s stellar efforts of 99 not out which stood out and thus, he was given the Man of the Match award in the SRH vs PBKS IPL 2023 match. At one situation, Shikhar almost ran out of partners as Punjab Kings collapsed to 88 for 9, but the senior Indian opener never really lost his calm and contributed with a stunning unbeaten knock of 99 runs off 66 balls that included 12 fours and 5 sixes to help PBKS reach a fighting total of 143 for 9 in their 20 overs. Tripathi notched up an excellent unbeaten innings of 74 runs off just 48 balls that consisted of 10 fours and 3 sixes while Markram too remained 37 not out. The duo stitched an amazing century partnership to help the Sunrisers Hyderabad pick up their first win of IPL 2023 with as many as 17 balls to spare.
