It was a no brainer that only a miracle could stop the incredible batting duo of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow in IPL 2019 and when defending 136 , Mumbai knew they had to produce an once in a lifetime spell.

Enter Alzarri Joseph who is in Mumbai Indians only because Adam Milne is injured and played this game only because Lasith Malinga is unavailable. He gets Warner on his first ball of Indian Premier League and then claims four wickets in his last seven balls as SRH are bundled out for just 96 runs losing the match by 40 runs. And Joseph walks out with six wickets for 12 runs, IPL’s best bowling figures.

Pollard saves Mumbai from blushes

Earlier in the night, Mumbai’s erratic performance with the bat continued as Mohammad Nabi got Rohit Sharma in the fourth over and Surykumar Yadav followed him in the next over.

de Kock too departed in the ninth over as Mumbai were in tatters. Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya staged a comeback but both fell in the span of eight balls and two runs.

Hardik Pandya spent some time in the middle and slammed Rashid for a six on the first ball of the 17th over. It all looked like another big finish by Pandya but on the third ball he was caught by Shankar at deep mid-wicket as he tried another big heave.

With Bhuvneshwar removing Rahul Chahar on the last ball of the 18th over, it looked all over for Mumbai but Pollard who was on just nine off 13 balls unleashed himself in the last two overs.

He clobbered Siddarth Kaul for three sixes in the 19th over and hammered Bhuvi for two fours and a six off the 20th over to take Mumbai to 136 runs. Pollard finished with 46 off 26 balls.

SRH’s stunning batting collapse

Warner began the chase in style by slamming Behrendroff for three fours in the third over but Chahar removed Bairstow in the fourth over and then Joseph happened.

After bowling a wicket maiden, Joseph picked Vijay Shankar in his second over to create panic in Hyderabad’s camp.

Pandya brothers tightened the noose that allowed Behrendroff to remove Manish Pandey in the 11th over and Chahar to remove Yusuf Pathan in the next.
