South Africa vs England: South Africa are taking on England in the third and final ODI at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. Having won the first two games in convincing fashion, the Proteas are eyeing a cleansweep in this encounter. They have been chopping and changing the side citing rotation but there is a forced change in this game. Stylish southpaw Quinton de Kock has missed out from the playing XI. Here is why:
Why is Quinton de Kock Not Playing Today?
Ever since his debut, the hard hitting left-handed wicket-keeper has been a permanent fixture in the Protean side. In the second ODI at Mangaung Oval, he had to receive treatment as he injured his thumb while wicket-keeping.
It all happened in the fifteenth over of the English innings. Harry Brook went for a pull shot off the bowling of Anrich Nortje. He under edged it and the ball went straight to the keeper. Quinton took it on the half volley but did not catch it on the whole, injuring his thumb. He immediately called for the physio and there was a lengthy delay. An X-ray was carried out which revealed no fracture. It was assumed de Kock would not bat in the second innings but he did, scoring a brisk 31 off 28 deliveries.
SA Playing 11
1. Reeza Hendricks
2. Temba Bavuma (C)
3. Rassie van der Dussen
4. Aiden Markram
5. Heinrich Klaasen
6. David Miller
7. Marco Jansen
8. Wayne Parnell
9. Sisanda Magala
10. Lungi Ngidi
11. Tabraiz Shamsi
The news from the South African camp is that Shamsi has come in for Keshav Maharaj. Sisanda Magala replaces Anrich Nortje. South Africa had two spare openers in Reeza Hendricks and Janneman Malan. Malan had come in for de Kock’s place as a substitute fielder in the previous game. However, Hendricks has taken de Kock’s place in the side today.
