South Africa vs England: England are currently touring South Africa in an ODI series before they move to New Zealand for two Test matches. The Proteas have won both games so far. In the first game, their quick bowlers were on a roll as they dismissed English batters at regular intervals, winning by 37 runs in the end. In the second encounter, their batsmen came to the fore as they chased down 342 runs with considerbale ease. The Lions are missing some key players like Joe Root but their form since T20 World Cup has been shocking. They have just won once in the last eight ODI games. Here are three changes they might make to secure a consolation win in the final ODI.
1. Phil Salt in place of Ben Duckett
Phil Salt could come in place of Ben Duckett with Dawid Malan shifting to no.3 in the order. Duckett had a outstanding Pakistan series but he has failed to make a mark in South Africa so far. He was dismissed cheaply by Anrich Nortje in the first game while Keshav Maharaj ended his subdued innings in the second game. While he took out his sweep shots to pile on the runs in the sub-continent, he has shown a weakness against pace and bounce. Salt is a specialst opener which will also allow Malan to play in his favorable position.
2. Jofra Archer in place of Reece Topley
Topley has uncanny wicket taking ability. However, he failed to deceive when given an opportunity in the second game. He was carted for 74 runs in his nine overs with de Kock and Bavuma specially ruthless. Many eyebrows were raised when Archer was benched for the game but Buttler announced that it was just part of rotation. He should be straight back in the side for this final ODI.
3. David Willey in place of Chris Woakes
Although they have slightly different skills as a bowler, it is sort of a like-for-like replacement given that they are both bowling all-rounders. Willey had a difficult first game but Woakes was worse, giving away 60 runs in six odd overs. Willey is also a potent new ball bowler with his ability to swing the ball under most conditions.
