SL vs AUS: The Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia so far has been a high-class exhibition of spin bowling. Although the visitors clinched the first game it was the spin bowling from both sides which stood tall. With the second game slated to take place on Friday (8th July), it is expected that another rank-turner would be on the offer.
Glenn Maxwell likely to play the second Test against Australia
Glenn Maxwell could be in line to make his Test comeback after 5 years when Australia lock horns against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Galle. The all-rounder played his last match in whites in 2017 against Bangladesh.
Maxwell’s fortunes changed when he was named in the Test squad as the replacement for Travis Head, who sustained a hamstring injury during the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

However, he could feature in the Australian XI for the second Test as skipper Pat Cummins remarked that the visitors are considering playing one pacer and therefore Maxwell can play as an extra spinner in place of Mitchell Starc.
Cummins said that if the conditions permitted that Maxwell will play as a spinning all-rounder at No 8 as they can get 15-20 overs out of him.
“He’d play as a spinning allrounder at No 8. I thought he was just about the pick of the bowlers in the one-day series, he was excellent. You can easily get 15 or 20 overs out of him. If the wicket plays lots of tricks, the batting will be the area where you have to find those 20 or 30 runs somewhere. Last week we didn’t need two quicks, but Mitchell Starc’s class so we’ll wait and see.”
