Sri Lanka are in a pretty bad position with respect to the first test match in Galle. They didn’t bat well in the first innings of the test, and bowled terribly to let Australia get a lead over 100. To top it all, their veteran batsman tested positive for covid-19 on the morning of the 3rd day of the test.
SL vs AUS: Oshada Fernando replaces Angelo Mathews
Sri Lanka gave away a first innings lead of 109 runs to the visitors Australia. With such a huge task at their hands to not only erase the deficit, but also, to set a competitive total for Australia to chase in the fourth innings of the game, Sri Lanka suffered a huge blow with their most experienced middle order batsman in Angeo Mathews testing positive for covid-19. He has been isolated immediately and since there is a thing called Covid-19 replacements, Sri Lanka opted to bring in Oshada Fernando for Angelo Mathews who played at #4 in the 2nd innings for Sri Lanka.

Oshada Fernando didn’t make much of an impact as he was dismissed cheaply for 12 off 18 balls. Sri Lanka definitely missed the batsmanship of Angelo Mathews in this innings. He was brilliant in the first innings for Sri Lanka and he also has a lot of experience in these kind of circumstances.
Sri Lanka came out to bat with positive intent in the 2nd innings. With 109 runs deficit, they had to apply themselves but decided to swing their way out of trouble and it has backfired bigtime. They have already lost 5 wickets and still haven’t take a lead.

Australia staring at a comfortable win
Sri Lankan bowlers were awful in their first innings, the wicket, inspite of assisting spinners so much, Sri Lanka spinners couldn’t get a grip of the wicket. Lasith Embuldeniya was terrible to say the least, Australia scored runs at a quick rate without having to take much risks. Sri Lanka would need a miracle to win this test from here on.
