Shubman Gill Update ahead of IND vs AFG World Cup 2023 Match
India’s star opener, Shubman Gill, is set to miss yet another crucial clash in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Unfortunately, he will also be unavailable for their second fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Gill’s absence, stating that he will not travel to Delhi with the team and will instead remain in Chennai under the supervision of the medical team. This setback raises concerns about when Gill will be fit to return to the tournament.
Head coach Rahul Dravid had expressed hope before the Australia game that Gill’s condition might improve, but the recovery process did not happen in time for him to participate in the match. Ishan Kishan took on the role of opening alongside Rohit Sharma in Gill’s absence during the game against Australia.
Gill’s absence is a significant loss for the Indian team, considering he is the leading run-scorer in ODIs this year, accumulating an impressive 1230 runs at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. In his last four ODIs, he showcased exceptional form, securing two centuries and a half-century.
