India’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ongoing IND vs ENG three-match ODI series after hurting his left shoulder while fielding during the 1st ODI on Tuesday. In a massive blow, Iyer will also miss the first half of the upcoming 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he is the Delhi Capitals captain. India is scheduled to face England in the second ODI on March 26 in Pune.

Shreyas Iyer injury rules him out of remaining two IND vs ENG ODIs
India posted a massive total of 317 for 5 in their 50 overs after impressive fifties from Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya. Iyer was dismissed by Mark Wood after scoring just 6 runs in the first ODI and then the right-hander subluxated his left shoulder while fielding during the 8th over of the England innings. The BCCI had earlier informed that Iyer was taken for scans to assess the injury after which he did not take the field in the second innings. It is understood that he has suffered a dislocation in his left shoulder and will not be available for the remaining two India vs England ODIs.

India vs England: Suryakumar Yadav to make his ODI debut?
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official announcement over Iyer’s injury status. However, the duo of Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav are the front-runners to replace Iyer in the middle-order. After two back-to-back brilliant performances in his debut ENG vs IND T20I series, Suryakumar is very much likely to make his ODI debut in the upcoming second ODI against England.
Shreyas Iyer’s injury is a vital blow for the Delhi Capitals (DC) as his superb leadership skills has been a key aspect for the team’s success in the last two IPL seasons. It will be interesting to see who replaces the DC captain in the first half of the forthcoming IPL season scheduled to start from April 9.
