Bangladesh’s T20 captain and one of the most prolific white ball all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan is all set to miss this year’s IPL. Yes, you read it right. Shakib, who was signed by KKR for his base price of INR 1.5 Crore at the IPL auctions 2023, won’t be playing part in the season.
Shakib Al Hasan IPL 2023: Why has Shakib opted out of IPL 2023?
The prolific all-rounder has decided to withdraw from the 2023 IPL season, and he has informed the franchise of his unavailability. The Bangladesh all-rounder cited personal issues and international commitments as the reasons for his absence. However, Litton Das, another Bangladeshi player in the franchise, will join the team later in the week once the Bangladesh’s Test gainst Ireland is over.
Although Shakib was bought by KKR for Rs 1.5 crore, he is believed to have contacted the team management to request an exemption from playing in the season, rather than being released by the franchise, as some rumors had suggested. It is worth noting that once a player has been purchased in the auction, he cannot be released by a franchise, but only at the end of the season.

KKR already dented with injuries
It hasn’t been a great start for the 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders as they are struggling with injuries. Skipper Shreyas Iyer has already been ruled out for at least half season and now Shakib. The two senior pros will be dearly missed by the franchise. However, they will have to come up with a different game plan with the players available in the squad.
