Senior players not interested in playing for Windies: Hooper

Former Windies skipper Carl Hooper has slammed senior Windies players who didn’t participate in the series against India. He feels that it is a shame that these players are not interested in representing the nation but at the same time he has backed the current Windies team by saying that they have the talent but need nurturing.

 

Hooper criticises senior players

Senior Windies players such as Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine are missing from the team that is locking horns against India in the ongoing T20I series. Their absence has certainly hurt Windies as they suffered a mammoth defeat in the first T20I.

Speaking about this, Hooper said that it is a shame that some players are not interested in playing for the Windies.

He stated that he doesn’t know why they are not interested to play for the team, but he feels that it is clear that they are not interested.

 

Hooper backs the current team 

At the same time the former cricketer noted that this is a young squad and these players need time. He pointed out that had the senior players been here, it would not have been this easy for India in the 1st T20I.

He reminded everyone that in the final of ICC World Cup Qualifier, they lost the match against Afghanistan. He believes that if they had the full strength, they could have won.

The former Windies player explained that some days they are playing well, some days they are not performing according to the situation. And he feels that Windies need to be consistent.

 

Hooper stresses on nurturing the talent in Windies

Hooper made it clear that Windies have the talent, but he feels that they need to be nurtured well. He further added that Cricket West Indies needs to adopt good policies.
