Virender Sehwag on Rohit Sharma: With India being comprehensively beaten by England in the first T20I by eight wickets, there were plenty of raised eye brows about the team’s selection. But most of all, it was vice captain Rohit Sharma’s exclusion that stunned the cricket fraternity.
Rohit Sharma 2nd T20:
It is being said that Rohit Sharma was being rested for the first T20I, but plenty fans and cricket experts didn’t come to terms with this call made by Virat Kohli and the management. Former Indian opening batsman, Virender Sehwag also recently weighed in by saying that he’ll refuse to watch the second T20I provided Sharma doesn’t start.
“If Rohit Sharma is present, then he should be kept in the team. Public comes to see players like Rohit. I am his fan myself. If he does not play, my TV will be turned off,” expressed Sehwag in the Cricbuzz post match coverage.
As per speculation, it is being said that Rohit Sharma might have to settle for the bench yet again, in order to give Shikhar Dhawan and K.L. Rahul another go at the new ball. Virender Sehwag did not take this too well either.
“Virat has said that Rohit Sharma will not play in the first two matches, but if India loses then will this strategy continue?’ Defeat makes a lot of difference to the team. If I were the captain, I would have brought my best team,” Sehwag further added.
Another interesting point which Virender Sehwag pointed out was that Virat Kohli hasn’t been consistent with his team combinations lately, and hasn’t backed certain players to the level they need o be.
“I think he (Virat) says something and does something else. What he says and does on the field do not match. First, he said he would back Rishabh Pant for T20I and ODI but he dropped him from both. When he scored runs in Test cricket, then he said Pant should come back fit and if he continued to do well, he would be recalled. Virat is still saying that Rishabh should play his natural game. But if he plays the same way, 21 off 23, he would again be warming the bench. So, I think, what he says doesn’t reflect on the ground,” He concurred.
IND vs ENG 2nd T20I Live:
With India now trailing in the T20I series, it will be interesting to see the changes (if any) are made by Team India in order to counter a star studded England unit.
The second game will also be contested in the Narendra Modi Stadium, at 7:00 PM (IST). The match will be broadcasted on Hotstar and Star Sports.
