Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction. The credentials on his CV are unmatched by any player, possibly.
But, there was a possibility that, we would have never seen those credentials. In the show, Breakfast with Champions, starring Gaurav Kapur, Sachin talks about his first test among other things.
He opens up about how he was scared after the first rest and thought he wasn’t meant for the big league. “The first innings of my life, which was in Karachi. I thought this was going to be my first and last innings.. after this nothing is going to happen… I’m not good enough to play this standard. I had no clue,” he said.
He then goes on to say how his teammates told him that his nervousness was rather normal. “I spoke to a lot of guys in the dressing room, the general opinion was that give it some time, this is international cricket, you’re playing, possibly, against the best bowling lineup in the world.. so you need to give them respect and once you get used to it everything falls into place,” he added.
The next innings, which was the second test in the series, Sachin scored 59. Sachin said,”And I got back to the dressing room and I looked at myself in the mirror and I said to myself… You’ve done it, you can manage, you can handle this level.”
And the rest, as they say, is history.
