The South African team management has decided to rest skipper Faf du Plessis for the remaining T20Is against Pakistan. The team has already lost Quinton de Kock due to an injury. So far there is no confirmation on who will lead the team in the absence of du Plessis.
Faf gets some much needed rest
The South Africa skipper was a part of the Test team that defeated Pakistan recently and he also played in all five ODIs against Pakistan.
With the World Cup approaching, the Proteas may be looking to keep their star player completely fit and fresh for the all important tournament.
du Plessis has remained a key batsman for the South African team especially after AB de Villiers’ retirement. His ability to play according to the situation and change the gears at will allows him to milk runs in the middle overs.
He was one of the architect of South Africa’s win in the first T20I. His knock of 78 runs allowed South Africa to post a total of 192 runs which proved to be too much to handle for the visitors.
He had also scored back to back half-centuries in the last two ODIs against Pakistan and also scored a hundred in the second Test.
Who will captain South Africa?
It will be interesting to see who leads the team in du Plessis’ absence. If the team management goes by experience then David Miller is the likely substitute for du Plessis.
The South African team has already lost their star batsman and wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock due to an injury.
