Ryan Rickelton affects MS Dhoni-like run out in 3 Team Cricket – Watch Video

There would be absolutely no wicket-keeper in world cricket who wouldn’t have dreamt of affecting an MS Dhoni kind of run out even for once in a professional cricket match. Such is the legacy left behind by the veteran Indian wicket-keeper. In the recently concluded one-off 3 Team Cricket match, young South African wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton realized this dream by pulling off an astonishing MS Dhoni kind of run out to dismiss Kingfishers captain Reeza Hendricks.

Ryan Rickelton does an MS Dhoni like runout

Team Kites went onto play the 3 Team Cricket match without the services of their captain and designated wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock. But the 24-year-old young wicket-keeper batsman Ryan Rickelton who replaced him in the squad made sure that the team didn’t miss the services of their captain as far as wicket keeping is concerned.

In the first innings of the match, he emulated legendary India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni and affected a run-out in a similar fashion to what Dhoni does to dismiss Kingfishers captain Reeza Hendricks for 20 runs.

The incident happened during the last ball of the fifth over of Kingfisher’s batting in the first innings, when Reeza Hendricks knocked the ball to the offside of Beuran Hendricks bowling. The non-striker Janneman Malan who was on 31 was very much keen to come back for the second run. Hendricks responded quickly to the call and looked very much interested in taking the second run, but in the process, he just fell short in the striker’s end due to an outstanding effort by Ryan Rickelton.

The ball was picked up from the deep by Temba Bavuma, who was the stand-in skipper for the Kites in the absence of Quinton De Kock. He threw the ball back to the wicketkeeper after picking it up brilliantly. But the throw lacked accuracy and hence Rickelton had to move forward to collect the ball. However, due to a shortage of time to dismiss the Kingfisher’s skipper, Rickelton threw the ball at the stumps from where he collected by bending and leaning toward the stumps like Dhoni used to do during his playing days.

Team Eagles led by legendary batsman AB de Villiers secured gold in the first-ever 3 Team Cricket match. They posted 160 runs combined in both innings and stayed way ahead of their rest two competitors who scored 138 and 113 runs respectively in their designated 12 overs spread across two innings.
