RUSSELL TO MAKE A COMEBACK:
West Indies International cricket team all-rounder, Andre Russell is all set to return to the West Indies team since November 2015 after being named in a 13-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh beginning from July 22 in Guyana.
ANOTHER CHANCE FOR POWELL
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and batsman Kieran Powell was also summoned back to the squad. On the other hand, Marlon Samuels, Carlos Brathwaite, Nikita Miller, Sheldon Cottrell and Kesrick Williams were dropped from the ODI squad.
Russell’s last ODI for West Indies nearly three years ago against Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Colombo.
He scored 41 runs off 24 balls but he also suffered a leg injury that kept him out of the following two matches in the three-match series. That match was the last ODI Russell has played since the 2015 World Cup.
FAILED DOPING TEST IN EARLY 2017
He had been suspended from international cricket for a year in January 2017 after he was found guilty of an anti-doping violation. Russell amounted to a failed doping test under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules on the grounds of failing to file his location paperwork three times within a year.
A NEW ENERGY FOR THE TEAM: COACH
“It’s great to have Russ back as well,” West Indies coach Stuart Law said while announcing the squad for the Bangladesh series. “His violent power and energy will bring back new confidence into an already motivated squad.”
As the series moves on Warner Park in St Kitts, Russell, who has played one Test, 35 One-Day Internationals and 29 Twenty20 Internationals, is added to the 13-man squad.
Recently, he scored an unbeaten century while playing for West Indies A against Bangladesh A and then enjoyed a fruitful time of things in the Caribbean Premier League, scoring 219 runs and taking 11 wickets for the Jamaica Tallawahs.
Earlier this year, he also played both Twenty20 Internationals against New Zealand
