Quinton de Kock not playing in RR vs MI: In a massive update, Quinton de Kock is not playing today’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match for the Mumbai Indians (MI) against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 51st match in the ongoing edition of the tournament is scheduled to be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah and it is a must-win encounter for both these teams. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Why is Quinton de Kock Not Playing Today?
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma mentioned that they have made two changes to their playing 11 from the previous game and that is Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya are not playing today while Ishan Kishan and James Neesham have been slotted in the side. Quinton has notched up a total of 297 runs from 11 matches this season at a strike-rate of 116.01 and he has struggled on these slow UAE pitches. However, the South African opener also scored a crucial match-winning fifty in the last meeting against Rajasthan Royals.
“We are going to bowl first. We have tried everything in this UAE leg, we have tried batting first, we have tried bowling first. The wicket here doesn’t change too much, so we thought let’s have a target in front of us when we bat. We know where we stand at the moment. Two changes: Ishan comes back for de Kock and Neesham for Krunal. We looked at how the game is being played here. The pacers have done well with their change-ups, the pitch tends to get slower and slower. It was unfortunate, Quinton is a very key player for us, so is Krunal. Unfortunately we have to do those changes and these guys have to miss out,” said MI captain Rohit Sharma at the toss.
